In fast paced environments like automotive factories and manufacturing companies, time is money and errors are costly. CNC/DNC machines along with software applications help eliminate errors, saving time and money.
To help connect CNC machines to engineering PCs running the DNC applications, industrial companies choose Quatech’s Wireless and Wired Serial Device Servers because they offer the industry’s lowest latency and highest throughput.
Quatech’s Device Servers connect machines to a networking computer running the applications and provides simultaneous CNC communication with a company wide network system. |

A CNC (Computer Numerical Control) is a small thin computer that delivers movement instructions to machine tools. These machine tools are typically large, high speed, enclosed metal-working machines used to cut, drill, punch or shape metal into usable objects.
The CNC operates the interchangeable tools in the machine, telling the tool how many thousandths of an inch to move, drill, sand, cut, etc. at any given time. The instructions telling the machine how to move are entered into the CNC via an RS-232 or RS-422/485 stream from a PC.

Servers to connect the RS-232 or RS-422/485 stream from the machines to the computer. Quatech’s Serial Wireless Device Servers help:
- Prevent errors from manually entering data
- Save money from scrapping large pieces of metal or breaking a costly tool
- Eliminate buffer overflow errors
To build a wireless network for your CNC machines you can:
- Install a Quatech Wireless Device Server at each CNC
- Share one wireless connection among multiple CNC machines by connecting a Wireless-to-Ethernet Bridge and a multi-port Ethernet/Serial Hub

Refresh Your Memory, Inc is a solutions provider located in San Jose, California and has been involved primarily with file transfers and machine monitoring in the manufacturing industry, specifically CNC machines, for 25 years.
When it comes to networking the CNC machines to a computer running the applications, their exclusive 4-port and 8-port Ethernet-to-RS232 hub-of-choice is made by Quatech.
The Serial Device Servers:
- Allow RS-232 CNC Machines to be networked with their software
- Provides simultaneous CNC communication with a shop wide network system.
- Provides lowest latency and highest throughput

Just a few of the applications RYM has solved has solved across the United States are large shops such as Northrop Grumman Marine System in Sunnyvale, CA where they have approximately 40 CNC machines in 4 buildings all connected back to the central file server via Quatech ESE-100D and QSE-100D Serial Device Servers and their PC-DNC Plus software.
"In all cases, every shop is completely satisfied that all ports communicate with the network simultaneously at the fastest baud rate with the lowest latency. In the CNC machine tool industry, latency is the biggest problem, and Quatech is the leader in Low Latency. These shops and hundreds more like them have all made the switch to Quatech Device Servers and are all very pleased."
